Marry Me

Can I get married again? Because I need to get married in this dress. It's so lovely, so well-made, so unique and wonderfully vintage yet modern. Alas, I cannot get married again, so I must offer this dress up to some lucky lady who it woos as it has wooed me.

It's listed now in the shop, but because the shop only lets me post 5 photos, I am giving the dress a showcase here, as it deserves a show ROOM!

__________________________________________________________________________

Stunning and one of a kind find, this dress. Handmade for a bride who undoubtedly looked positively heavenly in it.

Entire dress is made up of heavy white
embroidery with white slip sheath underneath. Empire waisted, long sleeve (slightly shortened, bracelet length), scoopneck with slight V, 6 satin buttons up the front, and 2 satin buttons on each sleeve. Trimmed in satin at collar and cuffs. Zips up the back with hook & eye clasp at very nape. Train snaps up into the hem of the dress when not in use.

This dress is VERY well made, and has a weighted handfeel to attest to it's well-craftedness.

Treasury for me!

Last night, by some benevolent fortune (I actually had a very lucky day all around, starting with all the green lights on the way to work, ALL of them, in the 11 mile drive! Then the riding boots from the Salvation Army in light tan and MY size!) I scored a Etsy Treasury, I wasn't even trying, so that's nice! Don't know what the Etsy Treasury is?
It is a coveted section of the Etsy site, at least by sellers that gets updated every few days. A seller or buyer "curates" a set of items for sale on Etsy, they compile 12 items linked together in some way - that way is determined by the curator. It can be by color, theme, item, idea, pretty much anything at all. It's good fun. But the real cool thing is that the Etsy front page is chosen from these Treasury pages. Therefore if you curate a Treasury and it makes the front page, you feel very happy. Furthermore, if one of your items is IN a Treasury you get A LOT of exposure and views on your items, SUPER fun.

Anyway, here is my Treasury, it's my third! Click right on it to link to it, if you want.

Oh how I love taupe, the uncolor.

I think I love taupe a lot. The shop seems to have a lot of taupe as does my closet. It's so soothing, sophisticated, minimal, grey but not, brown but not, love that!

Winter Secret (warning, non-vintage!)

So my closet is mostly vintage, almost all of my coats are also vintage, and as we who love to wear vintage know, vintage coats are NOT always the warmest. They are lovely indeed, but as far as functionality is concerned, well, they leave you...cold. In fact today I am wearing the MOST wonderful black cashmere late 1950s coat with a large cream fur collar, that is so divine, yet so not warm. Here I am in it at Christmas with my beautiful friend Madeline (who by the way is wearing this charming coat that is up for grabs on my Etsy site):Well, I have the solution! And no it's not a fleece
(I dislike that fleece material so so much).

The secret is this 100% wool under jacket I bought this year. It's from Title Nine. It's called the Thermostat Jacket, by Smartwool. And it renders ALL your cute vintage coats completely wearable in the coldest of weather. The "jacket" is very thin and lightweight so it won't add bulk under your coat and it is VERY soft (I am super sensitive to wool and this is NOT itchy). Now it's on sale and yes it's expensive, but then, how smart is it to leave your cutest coats in the closet all winter long?

Why can't life look like this?

I found a very pretty Flickr site, by MartaV.
I love the haziness of them, and how it's only how places look in our minds and never in our eyes.

You should wear these together.

I am all knackered out. I donned my vintage fascinator hat out last night and had the most wonderful cocktail EVER! It's called a White Spider. London-based fashion journalists used to order this old-style cocktail at the Blue Bar of New York's famed Algonquin Hotel. I didn't know how cool it was until today, I only knew how delicious it was! Husband and I ate raw oysters and drank cocktails and today I am paying the price.

BUT ----
I have updated Dear Golden Vintage, and here are two additions that I personally feel should be worn together!

Honest Scrap - I've been tagged!

Swell Vintage girl, Frankie nominated me for an award!

***This award is bestowed upon a fellow blogger whose blog’s content or design is, in the giver’s opinion is brilliant.

The rules: When accepting this auspicious award, you must write a post bragging about it, including the name of the misguided soul who thinks you deserve such acclaim, and link back to said person so everyone knows he or she is real.

Choose a minimum of 7 blogs that you find brilliant in content or design. Or improvise by including bloggers who have no idea who you are because you don’t have 7 friends. Show the 7 random victims’ names and links and leave a harassing comment informing them that they were prized with “Honest Weblog.” Well, there’s no prize, but they can keep the nifty icon. List at least ten honest things about yourself. Then, pass it on!

Here are 10 random honest things about me:

1. I freak out over birds. When I see raptors while driving I have been known to veer strongly off the road. If I ever see an owl while driving, me and my innocent passengers will surely perish.

2. When it's dark I am ready for bed, whenever that dark comes, in the winter it's like 4 pm, and otherwise bedtime if you ask me. In fact, I love everyday because at the end of it I get to go to bed - 365 nights a year!

3. I love vinegary foods, I call them "foods that fights".

4. I cry super easily, although I am pretty sure NO ONE knows that fact.

5. I love any film from the late 70s-early 80s in which characters appear often in leotards and they dance.

6. I have so many clothes that even if I changed my outfit 3 times a day for a year, I still would even come close to wearing all of them.

7. I am obsessed with my cats Sophie & Ella.

8. I cannot stand celebrities unless they are dead.

9. I hate showering. I mean, I DO it, but I totally hate it.

10. I love pink and totally not ashamed about it. I also love gray, but that isn't very embarrassing.

Annnnd the 7 victims of this award from ME are:

Clever Nettle - this blog is a regular dream to me, that dreamy gray (my fav. color!) and the pictures she posts make me want to be so much better about my own presentation, but alas, I am unable to attain her heights!

The Drifter and the Gypsy - ohhh, ahhhhh, ohhhhh, I can't describe how this blog transports me. It's so poetic and ethereal. She's like a hazy reverie in a sea of bramble we call the world. So glorious. I stole her music player bc the track playing nearly brought me to tears.

Grijs - I love the austerity and spareness of this blog, it's so clean and elegant, and full of the neutrals I love.

Textiles and Bicycles - this blog has things I love rolled into one: biking, sewing, knitting, cooking, clothing! She's a crafty cute gal!

The Luxe Chronicals - I love fashion history and she posts a lot about it, and other stuff, it's def. an blog for sophisticated smart ladies!

Swell Vintage - Oh Frankie, she is so spunky and fun, and although she claims to be turning into a recluse, I think she's a very hip girl with a hell of an eye for style!

Beauty that Moves - I've been reading this blog for a long while, since I started my other blog about yoga, it's just inspiring & soothing. She is an amazing women who makes all kinds of things and does yoga...her blog makes me want to cook wonderful things and make a home that invites in all the love.

It's extremely hard to just narrow it to seven. I wish I could just make it a revolving blog-door and change them every week!

Thanks Frankie!

Vintage Inspiration: Ali MacGraw

If you have never seen Love Story, with Ryan O' Neal and Ali MacGraw, you're missing out on some serious fashion inspiration. Ali Macgraws character wears the most adorable and understatedly chic clothing, I have always called that look, "Harvard 1972" look (although the movie is from 1970).

I have pulled from things from the shop, some recently added that I think capture this look, a look that seems to take up quite a bit of my own closet...

Happy Saturday!

Juncos Abound!

This morning I woke up to a flock of sweet little dark-eyed juncos eating all the seeds from one of the feeders that had fallen in the snow. Seems the squirrels figured out how to climb up the pergola and they make a damn mess of the seeds, however - they did spread it all over the very high snow enabling all the sweet birdies to gather and be my morning scene.
We recently added more bird feeders and it's amazing how fast they find the food sources! And the cats just love to hang out at the window nearly twitching while watching all the birds they most certainly cannot devour.

Promises, promises...

I told myself that this week I would NOT go to the thrift stores. I have so much backstock, so much to post that is just sitting and waiting like patient little vintage gems, that I just thought I had better give it a rest. But I can't! I am compelled! I went and I could just squeal with the bounty I found today. It's seems almost...like a destiny, I was meant to find these things, where would they go if I didn't? Who would get them?! I can't bear it. So I go and find, freak out with joy, then take photos, then wait and WAIT! Because the shop just can't have hundreds and hundreds of items, everyone would poop out while viewing, there's no point.

And so, these fabulous vintage items will sit in my sunroom-cum-shop room and wait, for their day...in the sun...

Wait no, that's only partly true, because some of it I keep for me...heeeheeee!

Peacock & Pheasant Feathers

So I am wearing this little gem today, the first one in the photo set. I felt my outfit was mildly dull and needed a little feminine flair (if I may use that word). My friend Jason actually knew it was called a 'fascinator', I was very surprised! I picked this one up from TenThings on Etsy...she makes very nice ones for a great price...I might be back to be another, peacock this time!

I have a much less glorious head of hair than in this photo, I am wearing it in the side pinning up one side of my hair. Jaunty, non?

Dear Golden Warm Up(date!)

The cold is never a good reason to look shabby, I see it as an opportunity, a challenge! Layering up can actually be quite cute! I myself love to layer some tights with some over-the-knee socks, and some tall boots all under a cute skirt or dress topped off with a warm-but-cute cardigan. Voila, cute winter girl!

These above items are now posted in the shop!

Scandinavian Inspiration

Given my love of Scandinavian modern design, I do love how this adorble sweater has a very rather traditional Scandinavian collar on it. Makes me want to travel to a remote cottage and cross-country ski all day and at night warm up by a fire with some hot cocoa...

Boots n' Bags

Pssst...I have MANY boots to post very soon, I have posted one pair tonight simply because I could not wait. And I have paired it with a sweet clutch that is very hard to part with. Boots and bags, we love them! Look for more boots to be posted soon!

New Sale Items Added!

New President, new blog.

What better day to begin the Dear Golden blog than the inauguration of President Barack Obama!

Dear Golden was inevitable, a collection of great vintage clothing could not be sequestered in closets forever. I am a girl who loves to get dressed and also loves to share my vintage finds with friends. As a rule I don't put anything in the Dear Golden shop that I would not wear, all items are hand-chosen with a keen and discerning eye.

With this blog I hope to be offering up vintage clothing and other fashion musings, but perhaps digressing from time to time.

I also will be posting shop updates and offering special promotions though the site, so bookmark Dear Golden to take advantage of discounts!
