It is possible that I could look at this sort of thing for hours. When I originally saw this post on this I did not want it to end. First of all, I love Julianne Moore and it's remarkable to me how she can utterly transform her entire being into these paintings with so much versatility. When I think of some of the Hollywood actors working today I just feel, "meh", and considering how I don't like celebrities, it's sort of a double "meh", but I do so love it when famous people are awesome, like Julianne Moore.

no vintage

No vintage on me and no vintage on the blog ---- meaning, say hello to my new blog design (which I am very excited about). It's not quite done, there's still a bit of tweaking left, but I have a stellar gal on the job (Rachel of Ironwood Design Studio) and it'll be all sewn up soon.

Today I am wearing no vintage, none none none. I guess it's the theme of this outfit, all new (or thrifted new stuff). I had a wide open day so I worked for the first part and then went to visit my nana and she took me to HER thrifting spot and told me funny anecdotes about old Hollywood film stars because she grew up next to a film theater during the depression and would hide out there all summer because it was nice and cool (re: dark, not cool from a/c!). Today she told me that Cary Grant was gay, and I still refuse to believe that!

1920s creme de menthe

When a dress is this pretty it can make a hanger dazzle, just imagine what it can do on just the right girl...curious? It's in the ✩shop✩ now.

new mauve

A long while back (over a year; I can't believe I have been blogging that long) I called for a modernization of three colors names. You can see that post here. Those colors were dusty rose, mauve & teal. Perhaps is the era in which I grew up but those color names just seem unpleasantly dated to me. Though I think teal may be having a renaissance of sorts (too bad) because of the popularity of 1980s clothing. But I digress, I still would love to hear your ideas for new monikers for these colors!

On to this dress, this pale mauve dress. Gorgeous 1940s crepe with elegant draping and goldtone metal drops on the false belt. It is imperfect, with a tiny hole here and there, and so it's mine and I think although it's pretty dressy, it isn't too dressy to just wear. And so I did. I quite like it paired with modern sandals and unfussy hair. See, you can wear vintage of all kinds every day!

nothing, not even the rain has such small hands

a soft, mid-day rain inspired ✩shop✩ update.

Some forward-thinking interiors from the 1970s that are both cool and loathsome in so many ways.  More here. And oh, isn't that gal's maxi dress in the kitchen (stable?) pretty darn cute?

perfectly imperfect

Sometimes a dress is just too pretty to cast away when it gets some pretty fatal flaws. This amazing 1940s dress is full of imperfections, very obvious one and yet, I am smitten with it. It came to me utterly filthy and riddled with holes both tiny and not tiny and it has about 4 buttons missing.  But the trapunto detail on it is perfect. The color, is nearly edible to me (would we call this melon?) and so I took the time to mend the holes (not too discretely because there was no way of doing so) and soaked it for a long while and now I have a perfectly imperfect dress that I love. I paired it with an imperfect necklace just to keep the theme going, it's missing some pearls.

hot tribe

Spent some time on the beach this weekend and while I did almost finish the book I was reading, a beach trip just isn't complete without fashion magazines and I had a healthy dose. What I have concluded is that I am very excited for fall fashion, which isn't out of the ordinary, but I feel like there are some elements coming around this fall that don't always, for instance the whole tribal theme. And if you ask me, it can hardly be done in a sexier way than in the 'Nomad' collection from Malandrino, sure I know, it's a Spring 2010 collection, but whatever.
