perfectly imperfect

Sometimes a dress is just too pretty to cast away when it gets some pretty fatal flaws. This amazing 1940s dress is full of imperfections, very obvious one and yet, I am smitten with it. It came to me utterly filthy and riddled with holes both tiny and not tiny and it has about 4 buttons missing.  But the trapunto detail on it is perfect. The color, is nearly edible to me (would we call this melon?) and so I took the time to mend the holes (not too discretely because there was no way of doing so) and soaked it for a long while and now I have a perfectly imperfect dress that I love. I paired it with an imperfect necklace just to keep the theme going, it's missing some pearls.

pearl and citrine cluster necklace • thrifted
pearly pink thong sandals • j crew

it looks perfect in it's imperfection! I'd say from here it looks like a peachy pink! Beautiful, well done for resurrecting it! x

I have some of these imperfect beauties! The color looks almost like a blush pink in your photos--a neutral pink. Gorgeous.

love it, such a gorgeous colour, and as the other ladies say the little imperfections make it even more special

It is a beautiful dress and totally worth redeeming! What do you soak your vintage dresses in?

I agree that the imperfections give the dress a lot of character! Like she's lived this long, fabulous life and has now gotten a second wind thanks to some TLC from you. :)

sometimes "save the pretty dresses" is the theme on my mind every time I go hunting. Even if there are a few things wrong with them, I feel obligated to keep 'em, even at least for myself. LOVE the details!

I completely agree! Sometimes, a little flaw here and there is not enough to take a pretty dress down! Hey! If you wear your hair down, the flaws might not be obvious anymore. But yes! I love the color of that dress and the lovely sleeve details. :)
