Living where I do, not in a big city, I am lucky to come across great vintage clothes, wearable, cool and nicely made clothes. But rarely do I come across the coveted labels as I might if I lived in a larger city. But there are some exceptions, those rare times that I pull out a dress from a rack only to find that not only is it a great vintage dress, it's also "something", a label! Such was the way with this Suzy Perette dress. I have only done better than this once, when I found a simple and elegant black Claire McCardell dress (which I somehow cannot seem to part with).
This amazing 1950s Perette takes all it's cues from Dior's new look - the black, the nipped waist and the voluminous ankle skimming skirt. In a jet black silk faille with huge soutache trimmed pockets, it is certainly a dress that will garner attention. I am not sure it ever got looked over at the store in which I bought it! I've held onto it for while as I am wont to do with dresses of this ilk, but as of today it's listed in the shop...just in time for the holidays.
