Chloe...love.

I think that perhaps one of the biggest innovations in fashion history, ready to wear fashion, while being revolutionary for the garment industry really has done a disservice to most of the general public. Before ready wear, clothing seem to be...well, more special. And made better, thereby lasting longer. And it sort of seems to me that ready to wear fashion quickly spun out of control and is now the clothing most of us wear is substandard in quality and preyy darn homogenious. Which is one of the reasons why I love vintage clothes. I know I run the risk of sounding really snobby in this post, but that is not my aim! I really love clothes, really really love clothes. And all I am saying is that once mass production of them took hold they lost something. This leads me to the Chloe collection for fall winter this year, total ready to wear and that is the idea put forth with no illusion. But it's fantastic ready to wear, the best! Not that I can afford any of it, totally not, but I can be inspired by it and am. There's pretty much nothing I don't like about it, the colors are perfection the fabrics are all the fabrics I love and it's just about one of the most glamorous ways I have seen neutrals. It's like Amelia Earhart meets Annie Hall meets Katherine Hepburn. I see the 1930s/1970s intersection at play here and that is always something I love.

i read something recently on a fashion blogger's site on a similar theme: we should buy/have less and buy/have better. women used to have a couple of good dresses and wore aprons to protect them. a good pair of shoes, the handbag for special occasions and the everyday bag. perhaps it's something we learn as we get older - because when i was young I had lots of cheap everything. and now i'd rather get something good that will last. mind you, i'm not going to worry if it will work when i'm 65, but i do want it to last more than a couple of wash cycles.

Chloe never ceases to be amazing! The coats, the bag, the dress...all so lovely! Your blog is fantastic. :)

Prefacing this with the fact that I agree...
I think that ready to wear is an incredible example of the democratization of fashion - to make it more affordable, disparate and available to the general population... in 20 colors. I think that's the goal. it's prime capitalism - we can all have it all, but only some of us can have ALL of the all. ;-)
ALL being cashmere. *laugh*
