My brother's girlfriend is a librarian in Washington, D.C. and for Christmas she gave me the coolest 1950s books on fabrics, dressing, clothing construction and design. Some are very technical and will do well to further my knowledge of vintage clothing. I love the ones on textiles and fabrics the most because there seems to be a real dearth of such books out there, particularly ones that go into detail about so many of the fabrics from which vintage pieces are made. I'm looking forward to pouring over them and using them as reference books.

Nouveau Flapper

I fell asleep last night reading this book called Elegance, The Seebeger Brothers and the Birth of Fashion Photography. As you can ascertain just from the title it's full of fantastic fashioin photos. Most are from 1909-1940 and well, there's a lot of cloche hats. So I slept with little dancing cloche hats in my dreams and awoke inspired to do a little modern flapper look. Then I went to a vintage shop near my house and bought the most wonderful things that will be coming to the shop very soon!
