old dress ◊ new shoes

Yes, I am totally goo-goo gaga over this dress and over the shoes, so why not where them together? Sometimes I think it's sort of nice to break from the dressing head to toe vintage and feeling a bit costume-like. While I can't say that I am totally convinced that these work paired together I can say I sort of like it anyway. The dress is a pretty fantastic 1930s wool number by Joan Norton Irwin and I am well-smitten with the label along with the dress. One of Irwin's dress was on the cover of Mademoiselle 1940, and that particular magazine is on eBay for $399! Wild.

Hi Lauren, are you planning on having kids? I was just wondering because I think we are about the same age & I've been married for a while & people always ask why I don't have kids yet!

You make dressing vintage look effortless and I love that. I love the combo of new and old and I think the shoes look great. Just go with it!

It must have been really good feeling when you realized you picked something with greater value than you thought! I love how it's modern enough to wear today.

so, so, so beautiful! I love how sweet and lovely the bows are, and then the shoes say 'don't mess with this Dame'. Love it...

Oh my god just when I think you can't possibly find something better - you DO! This dress is the bee's knees. That neckline is so amazing and the ribbon is beyond belief!

I really like the mix of the vintage dress and modern shoes! I have such a soft spot for shoes of just about any sort--not just ones that look "vintage"--and I mix them into my more vintage/romantic look regularly. Life is too short to worry about such things. lol.

the shoes make the dress seem so timeless and right now, and the dress makes the shoes seem a bit less UO (tho, yes, I heart UO) and just a bit more girlish.

look at those fisherman's shoes the model is wearing on the cover, too. so 1940, but I remember buying a pair of Doc Martens just like them in 1993.

oh -- yes, you look marvelous too! actually, better than the model. :)
