get your flannel on

 via the electric

It hit me today, the looking forward to autumn, it's a cool overcast morning and I pulled out my favorite red flannel shirt to wear and got pretty excited for chilly mornings, woodsy walks, hot cider, squashy foods, denim, boots and coats. This editoral from Elle Italia is helping my excitement along. It's treading a fine line between late summer and early fall. While I don't love that the model is holding a cigarette in the first photo (though it took me a real long time to even see that; while I'm at it I also am annoyed that she's pumping gas into a giant SUV, but then again it's Elle Italia...) I love the laid back, dusty 1970s disheveledness about this, that's what makes it summery to me. Autumn comes and I feel like I totally prep out and get my equestrian style on, it seems like I have wanted to wear the same things in autumn as I did when I was in high school - the same things everyone wants to wear! Boots, corduroy, plaid, and knee length skirts. I also thinks it's weird that we are so hard-wired to think "back to school" once September comes that every year I get this naggy feeling that I want to be taking classes...

The photo of the model at the gas pump so reminded me of one of my favorite photos of my mother, she looks so cool in this photo, in fact cooler than that model!

Went thrifting yesterday and found myself longingly touching the flannel shirts--although it was revoltingly hot and humid!
