So this dress was pretty wonderful to begin with, but it had some yellow stains here and there and while I could have just worn it anyway it seemed sturdy enough, despite it being lace, to go for a soaking bath in Palmolive with a smidge of bleach. I let it soak for about 2 hours only because bleach and lace aren't the best of friends. When you soak things in Palmolive, which is dishsoap, getting the soap rinsed out is pretty much an unforgivingly long task, especially when you can't wring a garment. But hello summer! I took the dress outside and laid it in the grass and hosed her down until all the suds faded away and lo and behold this gorgeous dress got more gorgeous, softer and whiter with nary a war wound. I hung her on the line and once she dried she dried I wasted no time seeing how she fit; and as it were she fits perfectly.

Gorgeous dress and very interesting method. Here in Finland we only get Palmolive as showergel, not dishsoap. However we have Ajax dishsoap which is made by same company... Probably same stuff with different name.
Anyway, I have heard that one can whiten old lace with fatfree milk, especially those made of polyester. Have you ever tried that?

Interestingly, my Mum has always laid things out on the grass in the sun to remove the yellow from garments. Something to do with the oxygen given off by the grass increasing the suns bleaching abilities. Yay mother natures.
