What a day. Today I met Kay and her husband Tom (who consequently has two brothers, Dick & Harry) for a vintage appointment. After speaking with Kay on the phone late last week I knew I was in for something great. I also was very excited to meet her. Born, raised, and then lived in Detroit for many many years, Kay is a "keeper" as she put it, and well, I am glad for it! The pink and silver trim dress in the 4th photo was the dress Kay wore on her first (blind!) date, to the Sweetheart Ball in 1957 with Tom when she was only 15. The man she married 5 years later. Flash-forward to 2010 and the pair are still married. She even showed me a photo of herself wearing the dress the night of date. Of course I told her she needs to scan that photo and send it to me! I sat with them for a good while listening to histories and discovering Tom's favorite cocktail is a bourbon manhattan - a man after my own heart...then both Kay and Tom told me that although I "looked young and acted young, I had a "senior mind"", which I thought was totally awesome (and true!). Excitedly I came right home and started cleaning all the garments with as much verve as a kid on Christmas morning, I tell ya.

I actually wore my Great-Aunts 1957 party dress to a Cotillion party a few years ago. It is the most fun thing to wear in my closet. Of course I cut the length off a bit and had to have a few panels put in the back (the little tiny waist would not fit me!). It is the perfect color red and is sitting in my closet while I wait for the perfect occasion to wear it again!

Gasp! Oh lordy, those are lovely. and it makes them even better to know where they're from and the story behind it! that is a precious story, and they sound adorable! I adore the sparkly one and the blue one too!
