On our way home for Toronto we decided just to take a detour and see Niagara Falls. I had this vision of it being an area stuck in the 1960s, like in the film Niagara with Marilyn Monroe. I wanted to stay in a totally retro motel and pretend I was on a 1962 honeymoon but sadly the only thing retro about Niagara Falls now is the falls themselves! The town surrounding the falls is a bit more like Disneyland or Vegas, blech. At any rate, the falls are amazing and also gorgeous at night as they light them up. Also, the park around the falls is beautiful at night with tons of illuminated signs and decorations. I am thinking December isn't the best time to see the falls as it was insanely cold, but I am nonetheless glad we went! We did find a very cute French restaurant and ate the most delicious buckwheat crepe that tasted almost exactly like an Almond Joy candybar!
Oh and speaking of cold, I was well protected with my giant cowl from Yokoo. I recommend these chunky cowls because they are warm, soft and easy to thrown on over anything; in the car is doubles as little leg blanket even!

there is this amazing installation right now at DIA beacon of a wall of postcards all sent by tourists from niagara falls from the turn of the century until about the 1950s. not only is it amazing how little the cards have changed but also how long this little destination has been attracting tourists!
How cool, I have yet to see the falls. I love that fuzzy hat you're wearing!
oh so cute! and such fun :o)
That Marilyn movie is one of her best I think. And that is exactly I've always imagined the falls to be! Shame they've gone and commercialized them.
That cowl not only seems cozy but is really gorgeous.
Love Grace.
My bf and I are taking a trip there in January (in lieu of exchanging gifts for christmas), and even though it will be ridiculously cold this post just got me very excited!
Do you remember the name of the crepe place?
You look adorable :)
Love this. And your cowl.

Oh wow! That's kind of sad/disappointing that Niagara isn't kitschy...
You look so cute in your Yokoo cowl! :)
Yep, you pretty much summed up my experience of Niagara Falls. Love your Yokoo scarf!
we went on a family vacation one summer to Niagra. I'm pretty sure it was 1977. My parents got married in '67 and had their honeymoon there....can you imagine?!?!?
