out with a bang...in my wallet

Last day of the year and how have I spent it? Spending it! When I went to bed last night I decided that I was absolutely not going to work today, which meant I had the day to do whatever, and since for some reason it feels like such a non-day I thought I would whittle the day away shopping. And though I only went to one shop, Anthropologie, I made the most of the trip. I bought all of the above as well as those earrings in gold and some pearly bobby pins.

And in other news, it's snowing again, nice plump pretty snow. I'm headed to a fancy dinner tonight, then Mr. DG is playing a show (he's a drummer) and then it's off to a party. I think now I'll take a post-shopping nap then wake up to coffee and biscotti before doing what is the very most fun thing about the evening...getting ready!

Have a super fun and safe New Year's Eve everyone!

paying the price

Tuesday while taking photos for the shop I decadently turned the heat in the house up to 70 degrees. Which is pretty sweltering when we usually keep it at 65 during the day and 55 at night. But I was tired of being cold changing my shirt tons of times while shooting a bin of blouses. It was so wonderful! I don't think our heat has even been on that high for the entire day. And so, yesterday I had to pay the price and keep the heat very low and seriously bundle up. I did get out of the house and went thrifting with my friend Amy (you can read her blog at Gulping Beauty), which didn't help keep me warm as it is less than 20 degrees outside. I heard a bird chirping and it sounded like a spring bird and I had a flash of spring in my mind. However I am not lamenting winter yet, I still long to hole up in a rustic cabin up north and have vowed that I will in the coming month!

super fun

New dress! Maybe a NYE dress I do not know, but I do know that I love it. It's pretty much seasonless and I absolutely love seasonless clothing, I mean, it's strapless, but you can wear a cute lil' sweater with it in the winter. I got it from a great little Etsy shop called Prance and Swagger. I had my eye on it and then it sold - I was sad, but it was my own fault and then, a few days later is was back in their shop and I didn't hesitate before snapping it up. Fits perfectly and is just so dang fun to have on. I had the belt and thought it added even more fun to the dress, and then realized I have many belts I can pair with this dress, and necklaces too!

And below are some Christmas present peeks! I got Mr. DG the boater hat and the Pendleton shirt and he got me some fashion books - ones I didn't even know were out there and he picked out himself, so cute. He also got me The Sartorialist book and proceeded to monopolize it for a good period of time....

mellowed

It's not even New Year's yet but I feel all post-holiday mellow that's it's hard to remember there's another very festive holiday to celebrate in mere days. Since my brain can't seem to wrap itself around that fact, I'm back to posting neutrals like they're going out of style - girl can't help it!

witchfairyprincesswomangirl

Last night we sat around with my mother listening to records and enjoying the fire. Though my mom was and is way into music she somehow had never heard of Kate Bush. We listened to The Hounds of Love and basically she's my mom's new favorite person. If you have not listened to the album, I suggest you check it out, thought it was made in 1985 it has an "out of time" feel to it. It's insanely creative and at times even "out there", but it's one of those albums that is great to listen to while doing nothing else.

Kate Bush herself is just too terribly cute, like a fairy-princess-witch-woman-girl all rolled into one. And I just love the whole 80s look...

monday shop update

My insatiable mother is insisting we go thrifting again this morning, even after hitting three giant thrift spots yesterday. So with a house already filled to the gills with yesterdays finds and snow falling fast and fat I am once again setting out to shop for the shop. And then, I have promised myself I will stop for at least a week - easier said that done!

bright light

Just some pictures of Marilyn today, simply because I personally can never tire of looking at her. I've watched two of her films this week and it's impossible to watch anyone but her. I can't imagine what it must have been like to have that kind of magnetism. It must have been both exhilarating and exhausting. I love how when I search for photos of her I always come across ones I have not yet seen.

cozy shop update

Cashmere, wool, angora...it's the season of cozy. What's so great about vintage cashmere is that it doesn't pill it's gorgeous and with the right care, lasts forever!
