Change in the tide

Nothing like keeping a blog devoted to vintage fashion to point out how all over the place my fashion sense is. I feel I am coming out of a "very vintage" mood after being in it for many months. I'm feeling pants! I'd like to blame the weather, but I can't, it's been quite warm. I just feel less like being "pretty" and more like being um..."tough"? I feel pretty silly writing that, but nonetheless. I wonder where these changes in our fashion moods come from? A lot of time it's the weather, but when it's not, what is it? I didn't anticipate it all, but for some reason right now I can't get enough of dark tight jeans and cords and tough little boots. The boots I am wearing here are old standbys from when I was 18 years old. I painted on them with white out one night while discovering the band Talk Talk (check out their album New Grass, you'll totally zone out). While I have thrown out an absurd amount of clothing between then and now, these somehow never left me, I think it's mostly because of what they remind me of, and now it's just a bonus that they are stylish again! Ha!

Oh and also, this sweater is actually a super long sweater I have turned upside down and am wearing like that. It makes it look all chic and cocoon-like, n'est pas?

chunky sweater - thrfited
gauzy cream henley -estate sale
black toothpick cords - JCrew
trusty shit kickin' boots - army surplus store...once upon a time...
hat - thrifted

I totally love this look! So how I'm feeling right now! Heck, I think you just inspired me to take off the dress I'm wearing and put on a pair of jeans for once in my life! :o)

Oh, I always find myself caught between feminine/elegant and tough/edgy. I love black leather and pyramid studs, but I also love pencil skirts and pearls. Go figure!

I was just writing about that the other day too. Feminine and Badass. ;) I think it's because there's a good girl/bad girl in all of us, perhaps?
I love what you did with the sweater!

first off, your outfit is great and those boots are so amazing! and also, i feel the same way! i will go into a cycle of wearing lots of real old vintage and then bam! back into modern and more trendy styles. for me, it's just boredom. the thing with fashion/style is that it's constantly changing!

you can pull off any ol' style you want and look amazing - i super love this outfit! that hat is made for you, and the boots make me think back to a black pair of combat boots I spray painted royal blue, then silver, then something else. I also remember your brother making hella fun of them; rightly so...They did NOT turn out stylish like yours!

Keeping a style blog has definitely made me aware of two different strains in my style... the vintage girly girl look and the boho look. Your outfit looks great... and I LOVE your boots! They remind me of my oxblood Dr. Martens from high school.
