1930s meet the 1970s

Every autumn it seems my style resides somewhere inside the 1930s and the 1970s. The colors of the early 1970s are not that unlike the colors of the 1930s, rich plums, mustard yellows & tans. The 1970s let the hemlines down just as they fell in the 1930s as a reaction to them getting quite short in the 1920s. The 1960s saw the introduction of the mini and the 1970s falling hemline reaction mirrored the one decades before it. Also, I love how 1930s hats are so totally wearable today, they are many times very simple so you don't really feel like you are asking for a whole bunch of attention while wearing a 1930s hat (that being said, I feel like whenever I wear a hat it always gets attention because people today don't really wear hats.) The 1970s has one unique element though, the beloved knee-high boots which make chilly weather darn near fun.

I LOVE that outfit. So chic yet so comfy-looking.

I wish I could wear vintage hats, but alas my head is far too large for even vintage men's hats!

Thanks for sharing this great look!

Wow, I never thought about the parallels between the two decades! But you're so right. I adore that hat and outfit so much.

Two things I wish people still wore everyday: hats and gloves.

Can you adopt me? Seriously! That hat on the left is to die for. I agree about the 30s/70s connection (similar to the 40s/80s revival).
