All Different Kinds of Girls

photography by Ye Rin Mok

I'm a girl's girl, I like to hang with the girls, I like to have lots of girl friends and I am just generally interested in other girl's lives. Now, I wasn't always this way, I had my "hang with the guys" phase, where I think I thought other girls were annoying, vapid and emotional. But then I grew up, and I think women are the shit, even better are actual grown women, like women in their 40s and 50s, they know stuff, a lot of stuff and well, I am looking forward to knowing more stuff. My friends who are older than me are a constant source of knowledge and beauty. To me younger women just seem like grown women in training or in the making, and sometimes you can see the grown woman inside a younger woman (maybe some call that having an old soul?). Anyway, I recently found Ye Rin Mok's portrait photography and immediately liked that she shoots a lot of portraits of these younger, about to be grown women. I feel as though these photos capture the grown woman inside these women with a lot of sensitivity and beauty.

I love this post Lauren! I totally agree. I am in my 30's and my older friends in their 40s and 50s have a wealth of information and experience that is at times amazing to me. Now in my 30s I feel very comfortable growing into my skin and I love being this age and am enjoying myself in a way that I couldn't in my 20's

This is a great post.... and so true. The younger gals being "women in training" ... love it. ;)

this is wonderful. I sooo know what you mean. And, since I was a little girl I have always had older women surrounding me, telling stories, braiding my hair..etc. My grandmothers died young, but i knew exactly where to find more lovely ladies. They (and my mom especially) have really shaped who I am today as a confident and ambitious young woman. Thanks for reminding me of that :)

I LOVE THIS. i also love that maybe, quite maybe, the standard of beauty is changing just a bit to include the not so standard, quirky and individual kinds of beauty. these photos all do a beautiful job of conveying just that!
