It started innocently enough, with a husband away on a snowboarding trip and me snuggled up with my laptop watching Downton Abbey. And then, sadly, Downton Abbey ended (nevermind that I watched the whole 7 episode series in two nights). Not ready to let go of the whole "upstairs/downstairs" theme, I then watched Gosford Park. After that I found myself on Netflix loading up my queue with every early 20th century BBC (or BBC style) drama I could find. When I had dinner with my friend Lisa this week she recounted me a similar obsessed trajectory of her own and then recommended a BBC series called North and South, which is actually pre-20th century, but sigh...I watched it. And now it seems the whole thing has seeped into my wardrobe, today it is manifested in this blouse which seems quite Jane Austen to me. If I start walking around town in a hoop skirt someone should intervene, please.

I am a lover of all things British, especially of the Austen era. I've just finished reading Jane Eyre and headed straight to Netflix for a Brit fix. The only "watch instantly" version of this book unfortunately stars Timothy Dalton. He is NOT what Rochester looks like to me.
hope you've watched The Tenant of Wildfell Hall ;)
period dramas are a necessity. like cheese and friends.
Funny! I just purchased the DVD of Downton Abbey yesterday. I watched one episode of it when it aired on TV earlier this year and was instantly hooked. Unfortunately, I was unable to see the rest of the series on TV. I am looking forward to watching the entire series in one go this weekend! I don't think that I can even say the number of times that I have seen Gosford Park. I adore that movie!
you look awesome!
you might also enjoy the new upstairs / downstairs and south riding :)
I am watching Downton Abbey right now, but North and South is one of my all-time favorites. If you like Jane Austen at all, you should watch the newest version of Sense and Sensibility (BBC 2008 miniseries). Not only are the clothes fantastic, but so is the acting, the cinematography, and the soundtrack.
i haven't seen any of those shows but i DO love that blouse! :) it's the perfect mix between a peter pan collar and an ascot tie. great find and i love the way you wore it in that outfit. very cute :)
Well, this is just lovely! I can't wait until my hair grows out a bit so that I can wear ruffles again. They're just so hard to pull off with short, straight locks.
I absolutely love this outfit! I am also watching Downton Abbey right now! BBC is just fantastic.. I can't get enough! Good for you for finding outfits that fit that time period. It has a modern feel to it yet it still has a classic style. Love it! :)
You look lovely!
I highly recommend the new Upstairs, Downstairs as well. Another BBC series that has stayed in my mind for years, partly thanks to a young Rufus Sewell, was Middlemarch. Also, I must be the only woman in England that hasn't watched Colin Firth in Pride & Prejudice - I didn't have a TV when it aired (I was at University) and I've never got round to seeing it but I'm told that it's wonderful.
LOVE Downton Abbey. My mother said the Upstairs/Downstairs series is similar, but sadly it's not on instant watch.
I watched all 7 episodes of downton abbey in ONE day! I am SO happy you watched! :)
It was so good I am re-watching it with my husband..and though he wont come out and say it in so many words..he LIKES it!!! :)
ha HA!
I loved Downton Abbey and Gosford Park too, and most BBC dramas that have aired on Masterpiece. Seeing the earlier comment, I have to suggest that the Ang Lee version of Sense and Sensibility (1995) is better than the BBC version that aired in 2008, though it is good as well.
Oh North & South! I've got the hugest crush on Mr Thornton. So does my mum. And my gran. I think we share similar taste in men.
Gosford Park is my favourite :) Happy BBC watching.
you can always excuse yourself by saying it is history (or like a historylesson). It is better than my current obsession with colin firth - History just don't cover that one...
beautiful blouse!
i wish i could watch the BBC more - i'm so embarrassed to admit this, but i have the hardest time following a british accent. i get so lost!
I love your style and your blog!
Im your newest follower, hope youll want to follow me too : )

your blouse is gorgeous. i love that beautiful lace trimmed collar.
Oh, if you want another BBC to watch, then try Wives & Daughters. It's by the same author as North & South.
