last chance white...or maybe not

Although it seems the history behind why wearing white after Labor Day is a fashion no-no, the covention has certainly enjoyed some staying power. Time Magazine has a great article on the fashion rule (here) which has got me rethinking the guideline which has been so ingrained in the American fashion subconscious. But since I haven't decided if I can make the hurdle to wearing white after Labor Day, I thought I had better wear this vintage white lace dress and white oxfords before this weekend.

The jury is also out over as to whether or not I like the photo effects, but I sure had fun toying around with them!

late summer's greatest hits

The bittersweet end of summer - it seems we are always sad to see it go but then there is autumn to look forward to, my favorite season. The introduction of Instagram has been a way cool way for me to document the summer, I am very bad at taking my camera places and even when I do I never seem to take it out of the camera bag, so Instagram is sort of perfect.

start a collection

handmade pendleton wool pillow cover by littlebyrd vintage

I already collect enough things, but these wool pillow covers made by Rebecca at LittleByrdVintage tickle my collecting bone something fierce. Actually, her whole shop creates this soothing calm cabin-house feeling and I just way to lay my head down on one of these pillows and wake up to the smell of a campfire.

hello hello!

Hello hello! Here is the end of the week shop update  - all you see is available in the shop

Dear Golden, painted

My super cool and obviously talented friend Erin painted me! She took some of my shop & blog photos and did a painting based on them and I just love the finished piece. I am already dreaming up new pieces for her to paint. Some people have cooks or housekeepers, heck, I'll have an artist on the payroll! You can see more of Erin's work on her blog, Not So Round Circles.

You'll find all these items in the shop

endless summer

Summer isn't exactly waning over here, the humidity and temps aren't hinting the season's end and I'm trying to wear every sundress I have in my closet before it's all over.

________________________________________________________________

When Madeline and I lived together in college there wasn't any internet in house or iPhones to absorb our time so we made up all kinds of characters and games to entertain ourselves and procrastinate our classwork. One such game was "Who is Uglier?", where we would both sit in front of the mirror and see who could make the ugliest faces. Then we'd photograph them. She might protest, but I am pretty sure I can make the ugliest faces ever; uglier than anyone I know. This weekend it came to our attention that through the years we really have not changed much because as soon as we get in front of the camera we default to making ourselves look awful as opposed to pretty...

in the friend zone

My best friend, Madeline, is here visiting me until Monday and she could not come at a better time, I certainly can use the break. The days and nights are already packed with plans - Lise's concert, cocktails and dinners, a woody walk, old car show, going to see The Help, a night at the jazz club & Sunday afternoon at the spa....a gal could get used to this kind of life...

This outfit really isn't all that blog worthy, but I have not done an outfit post in a long while so...

claudette et la petite fille chanteuse

Coucou! (See me being all French?) Yesterday a cherished friend of mine, Claudette,  brought over her lovely friend Lise to shop for a dress for Lise's concert in town this Friday night. Lise is from France and comes complete with a charming accent and a body that is made for vintage dresses. The afternoon was basically spent putting Lise into dress after dress like she was our very own human dolly. I declare the girl made a masterpiece of each lovely frock. Of course Claudette couldn't resist walking away with a 1950s polka dot dress herself having arrived to my house in a polka dress she bought in the shop a couple of weeks ago.

I so look forward to Lise's concert this Friday at Claudette's shop M E T A L, if you local you should come check out the free concert and see the dress Lise chose for the show.

bits of my morning

Perfect temperature, the sound of crickets, cloudless sky - these have been the past few days and they are the very best mornings. Chilly enough for an early sweater but the promise of a warm day and a cicada concert at nightfall. I picked up my camera this morning because the light was so right.

what's in the shop?

Yes, all of these pieces are now in the shop!

1950's winter wedding dress

Simply one of the most amazing and beautiful pieces I have had the pleasure of having in the shop (soon!). A 1950s creamy silk satin winter wedding ensemble that is perfect in every way. Three pieces - a underskirt that creates fullness as well as peeks below the hem of the dress, the dress and a mink trimmed cropped jacket. Needless to say, were I not married I would plan an entire winter wedding around this amazing garment.
