A Tale of Woe...

A vintage tale as old as time, no? A gorgeous vintage, nearly antique, dress with just a bit too much damage to wear. For me it's a particularly sad tale when the dress is one of these airy 1920s bohemian beauties. This lovely dress was clearly well-loved, so much so that the previous owner(s) mended it several times in several places; but this type of gauzy sheer cotton doesn't hold up well to repairs so the damage just kept right on going. Thing is, the bottom of the dress was perfect, just perfect. And so....
I cut it in half. Gasp. Yes. Was it hard to do? You can bet it was. But I had to make this garment live again!
The result? A perfect 1920s gauzy bohemian smocked and embroidered SKIRT! Voila!
And certainly, one can still wear the top of the dress. The skirt will be in the shop soon and whichever lucky gal makes it hers will also get the top because it just seems a shame that they part forever.

  1. Great save! I can see the top fabric being incorporated into a little drawstring purse of sorts.

  2. Brilliant way to keep the dress alive. I will definitely bear this in mind next time I find something 'beyond repair' xxx

  3. What an unfortunate beauty! I do see that top repurposed somehow. So glad you were able to save the skirt, gorgeous piece!
