1920s Greece in color

As you may or may not know I have a pretty hearty affinity for 1920s-1930s bohemian/folk clothing. It's not easy to find, as one would expect, so that just makes me affection for it even stronger. I love love love these images of Greece in the 1920s, they make me want to put on three of my embroidered skirts, a head scarf & head out to the meadow to pluck olives off some low branches.

Thanks for sharing - these are wonderful! They remind me of the photographs of Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii (that's a mouthful!) who traveled across Russia in the early 1900s at the behest of the Czar, photographing the country and people - and in color, at a time when color photography was not in common use. Check out some of the photos here:

It's amazing to see all the different people in their native dress, in color, when you would normally see photos like this in black and white.

Slept in a tiny tin boat on the beach in Greece because all hotels were full. Woke up at 5am to find 3 very large naked old ladies swimming right in front of me...and that was my Greece :) that place is a dream...and so were the clothes judging from these pics....

I'm fascinated with vintage color photography and am going to chime in with the Anonymous about Sergey Prokudin-Gorskii, Russian chemist and photographer, the pioneer of color photography.
I really think you'll love this link with lots of ethnic clothing from early 20th century: http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2010/08/russia_in_color_a_century_ago.html

Since I'm from the country of Georgia in Eastern Europe and Prokudin-Gorskii photographed ethnic Georgian clothing as well - I too posted about him here:

Sorry it's me again. I also have two more posts of my own family vintage photos I'd like to share with you. These are from Georgia (former USSR) which is sandwiched between Turkey and Russia. Hope you'll enjoy these posts.
