boomerang dress

This dress is like a boomerang. When I got it last year, it had these strange strips of cotton crochet lace on the halter straps, obviously added much later than the 1950s. When I took the seam-ripper and removed them it sort of wrecked the straps and they looked pretty awful. So disenchanted with the whole scene, I gave the dress to my mom to sell in her quirky little thrift store. Nearly a year had passed and I was visiting my mother's store and saw the dress, fully repaired (my mom is an amazing seamstress) and I promptly bought the dress a second time (yes, I bought it from my mother). Not only that I THEN had the thing tailored as it was just a bit too big. So, who knows how much money I have into this dress at this point and frankly, I don't want to know, because I love it.

1950s Darling Bud cotton dress can't even remember at this point!

  4. Something similar happened to me with a dress as well! Thrifted it, loved it, then felt weird about it. Donated it. Saw it almost a year later at the Salvation Army, and I bought it again. I firmly believed it was a sign that I had to get that dress again!

  9. Gorgeous dress! I just bought a pattern that looks very similar to that, so it's really good to see what it looks like on a real person. Very flattering!
