grocery getting

Please excuse my hair. I had spent the day taking loads and loads of photos for the shop and my hair sort of got out of control. But this post is not about my hair it's about the skirt. The glorious 1950s circle skirt with the fantastic floral print. I love huge floral prints and I can't do better than one that includes my favorite color - gray! I changed out of the yoga pants I usually work in for a trip to the grocery store for mojito ingredients. Can't wear yoga pants to the store, won't. We must not fool ourselves, yoga pants are modern day sweatpants, really, and thereby are best for home or for doing yoga. Ok, so maybe on a cold, cold night when you are headed out to pick up some Thai food they are fine, but on a sunny pretty afternoon I think a pretty skirt is more fitting. I love that this one has a belt!

end of the week shop update

Happy Friday everyone! For me this has seemed like a long week, probably because it rained and rained for most of it. April IS the cruelest month...
A shop update to round out the week. All of the above is now available in the shop.

to ring the neck

 1930s blue Czech glass necklace

 1930s purple Czech glass necklace

 1930s art deco brass necklace

1960s enamel on metal scarab necklace

Just sharing some necklaces I have recently added to my collection. I think there are girls who like to wear rings the most, earring people, bracelet people and necklace people. This week I went to an vintage appointment and the woman selling her mothers & grandmothers clothing collected earrings and she had more than I ever thought someone could have, she called herself and "earring person". I say I am none of the above, but if I had to say I'd say I was a necklace person. In reality (my closet as evidence) I am a dress person. I wish I were a bona fide necklace person because necklaces take up a LOT less space!

Anyway, the first two are from the same place, The Treasure Mart, but someone else had claimed the blue one. I was so sad and told the woman that works there to call me if something fell through. 4 days later she called and the beauty was mine! Oh wait and the last necklace, the enamel painted metal scarab also came from The Treasure Mart.

monday shop update, part 1

Today's shop update isn't as hearty as usual. I had appointments today, one of which was a vintage appointment. A very fun one where I left wearing a different dress than I arrived in. I wasn't expecting to buy much, I thought I was mostly in for some vintage hats and some lingerie, but as it turned out I was in for much much more. I love when that happens. But at any rate, the shop did get a lil' update, all the pieces above are now available in the shop. I'll be updating throughout the day tomorrow too!

workin' (in) it

What does a vintage seller do with a great dress that ruined beyond repair? Well she wears it to work in of course! This dress has such a great shape and little details, I am well-smitten with the shoulders and the buttons up the side. But it's got a host of stains and mends along with a raw hem, that I won't bother to fix given all the other flaws. So it's perfect for working in. I love it paired with the gladiator sandals, I feel very Claire McCardell, we can't forget that women in the 1940s were totally rocking sandals not unlike the gladiator sandals every girl is running around in now.

Not much to this outfit, I'm working!

Louise Despont

When I was in high school and college I, like a lot of people would doodle in class. These illustrations on antique ledger paper by Louise Despont remind me of my school day doodling only a thousand times better. I love how the ones with the color look Art Deco.
