Whipped.

Today I took 457 photos for the shop! I am totally knackered. I am wondering how I can get the energy to actually post some in the shop! But I needed to pay my house some attention so spent the day cleaning and clothes-keeping. But I am so so excited to post new things, I am so happy it's March and time to post lots of floral patterns too.

I thought I'd post some of my upcoming favorites here, just for fun!

Friday, February 27

I'm blushing over here!

The most delightfully sweetface of a girl, Darrah has complimented me out of my bad day with her blog posting about the shop, Midas Touch. I swear I did not pay her to say such things! But I think maybe I should start!

Happy Friday!

Bright Springtime Folk Tunic

I could not be happier that it's Friday. I have a whole weekend of home-time planned and could not be more excited about it. I acquired a large vintage lot of clothing this week and that means that it is now time for a big shop spring cleaning. I have so many garments in various states - needing repair, needing ironed, needing alteration, etc. My goal to to tackle the piles in the shop with gusto! I also have a big photo shoot planned so you can expect some fantastic new item from this lot I came by this week. I did a mini-update last night though and these cute red shoes were in it. The buff cutout pumps would totally be mine if they fit, but they are only 5 1/2, so some lucky little lady will have to score them!

Holy drool!

I just found the shoe site that'll be the end of me, and maybe you! Really unique, well-made and freaking cool shoes are in abundance at Cydwoq Vintage. Browse around the other shoes on the site, they are so fun to look at!

I'm whining again.

Whining about how I want some other non-vintage items that are beyond my comfortable price range. But these are SO simple and so elegant. Someday when I am old maybe THESE will be OLD and I can find them in thrift stores! LOL!

The Happy Blues

New additions to the shop, a collection of pretty blue items. I'm really drawn to lush oceanic and peacock blues and teal right now. I've never been much of a 'blue' person, but I think the tide is changing (ahem, pun intended).

I'm featured (and interviewed)!

Helen from HJM Art Gallery, was so cool and asked to feature me on her blog, and I am honored!
To see it, click here the photo! Thanks Helen, I feel very special!

Etsy shop shoutout

I love this shop, Metrode - chic, elegant, minimal and classy picks. So nice. Dare I say it is my favorite Etsy shop, at least right now. I am particular to this simple trio necklace and would but it were there room on my necklace tree for it, but as it were I am overloaded (of course!). So here, I offer to anyone else who may love it.

T to the A to the G

Miss Gladys of Gladys Gladrags and The Goodtime Girl tagged me! Now I am to list 7 random things about myself. Which is why there is a photo of me (and my friend Amy on the right, bc she is very cool) here.

1. Skin is olive.
2. Hate loud noises.
3. Love kitten paws.
4. Resist using the phone.

5. Obsessed with the color gray. Still.

6. Never paint my nails.
7. Love cupcakes and raw oysters. Though not together.

Now the part where I tag unsuspecting blog-frens!

All over it: The Boyfriend Jean

Loving them. From the waist down this photo (from the Sartoiralist) is me today. I scoured the thrift shops for MY pair of boyfriend jeans and it FINALLY paid off. But not before my dear friend Jason just GAVE me a pair of his old Levi's that have proved to be spectacularly perfect, and free! What I love about this trend is that you can walk into just about any Salvation Army or Goodwill and score yourself these jeans! They are out there in spades, for a song. Also they are great now and they'll be great in the spring/summer. I am going to work on getting some super lightwash ones, a pair no one will probably like except for me, I feel like I always have to have some fashion obessession that some people just aren't "sure" about. Hell, sometimes I even wear things I MYSELF am not sure about, but then again, it's all in fun, can't take oneself too seriously.

New Sale Items!

In an effort to allow myself to post new items, I put added some items to the sale section! Here are just some of the items.

The Jumpsuit.

Nearly forgot about this mammajamma. The black 80s jumpsuit. You know you want to hate it, but then you kind of like it, and then you aren't sure how you feel. So just go on and jump!

On the fence...

Seeing as I love the color gray ever so much, I am having a hard time deciding whether to keep this or put it in the shop...any thoughts?

The Vanillas

Tonight I posted some of the creamiest cream items. Take a peek!

Dancin' Mary Janes
Super comfy shoes, made for dancing the night away!

Bow & Lace Sweater
This fetching little number can coax pea right out of it's pod, if you know what I mean...

The Jackie O. Suit
Glorious, hand-tailored and of the most stunning quality. Made of wool and trimmed with peacock blue linen. So elegant.

Veryfine Dress
Demure 1960s vintage number, with subtle gold flecks throughout the bodice. The skirt is so full and swingy, makes one want to put on the Mary Janes and head out!

Crying on the outside.

I love vintage! I do! And I JUST posted about how I just love it so much. BUT, today I met this dress. And it's not vintage. But it DOES have vintage flavor. And I savor the flavor! Eat it up! This dress makes me tear up a little. I just might save up for it, it'll be the most high priced item of clothing I have ever purchased by a long shot. And as I type this I am pretty sure I won't buy it, because I am too cheap. But yet, I can maybe make a color print out of this and like, nuzzle it all night or something. YOU can buy it though, and you can do that here, Beklina.

Oh how the currents of fashion shift...

For months on end, I was so enthralled with bow, ruffles, peachy colors and all things girly. Somehow over the past week I have shifted and now seem to be loving all things fierce! One would think that the pending onset of spring would create the opposite affect, usually now is the time for pastels and flowers. But no, right now I want black lacy things, strappy assertive heels, hard-edged abstract jewelry and jeans jeans jeans - especially skinny white jeans. These fashion "rides" are so fun, I go to the shops and see things I might not have seen when my feminine frill eye was in the forefront.

That being said, I did have a revelation of sorts yesterday - I think because I see so much cool vintage fashion and so much creativity whereas other people's outfits are concerned (on various websites), that I have become a real fashion snob! A snob for vintage! For instance, I went to the mothership of fashion forward retail, H&M, and was utterly bored stiff! I felt like I could find MUCH cooler stuff on Etsy if I just searched. I felt like I could SELL better stuff, in fact! Not to mention, it has been so long that I have been in a chain, retail store that I was really put off at how there was so many of one item. You like a shirt, well so does like 400 other girls so they'll be wearing it too. I love vintage, you find something great and you know that only you have it!

I love how this girl is unabashedly fierce, that necklace is perfection, it reminds of something a Bauhaus artist would have made. Her shoes? Killer! I love how she's all edgy, but then the eggplant color of the skirt and the fuscia of the bag soften it up and make it more playful. I try to ignore that she is smoking...

This is a recent addition to the shop that fits right in this fierce and edgy trend I'm feeling, I'd keep this baby were it only my size! Those amazing leather shoulder epaulettes? Love them!!

And when I grow up...

I want to look just like this woman. But before that I need to know where in god's creation she acquired that amazing bird print top under that massive fur she's wearing!! Photo from Garance Dore.

Pinwheel & Faux

I am planning a mega-photo shoot tomorrow and will be on tenterhooks wanting to get the new items posted, but they have not been measured yet and won't be posted as soon as I would like, so I thought I would placate myself by posting a couple things tonight. I am weary from the drive back home from Pennsylvania, but trying to stay up until 12:04 because that's my official birthday!

I am pretty keen on this pretty little faux fur shrug, usually I am not into vintage faux fur, but this is quite soft and very lovely so it makes the cut! I also love the big cuffed sleeves. The shoes I have had for a long while, but just never posted them, today is their day!

As a side note, I just love how the words "pinwheel & faux" work together, I wish I would have named Dear Golden that!

Off for a spell

I'll be away from my beloved computer machine starting Friday until Monday. It won't be easy, but alas you cannot yet be connected to the internet while driving along interstates for 9 hours. I'm off to Pennsylvania to fetch a vehicle, see a best friend and tackle a flea market. OH, and have a birthday celebration at The Ugly Oyster whereupon I will drink many pints of Guinness and eat my self silly with raw oysters!

Home from the Hunt

Well thankfully, the gods of vintage are always with me. Today especially so! I discovered this website the other day that will tell you all the thrift stores in a certain city, ThriftShopper, and it has changed my life! I found THREE places that are within miles of where I usually go (out of town) that I had never been. Two Value Worlds and one Salvation Army. So now my thrift tours will take more time, but be more successful! I love how every place has it's thing...like some have great shoes, but crap dresses, some have amazing bags and coats and nary a shoe I care for. And what I realized also today was how much I have to CARE about an item to buy it for the shop. Every item I pick up and consider prompts me to ask myself, "do I care about this dress/blouse/coat..etc?" If the answer is no, it's nearly impossible for me to put the energy into putting the shop. There are times that I know an item will sell, but it's just not right for the shop whereas my taste is concerned, so I pass it up.

Today I found 4 huge garbage bags of things that made the CareCut, and well, now I have my work to do. I took some shoe photos, but aside from that everything has to wait as I am off to Pennsylvania for the weekend (yes I have mapped out the thrift stores to hit too!). So, I will leave you with these beauties I got today and will eventually make in into Dear Golden!

Also, if anyone knows of anything vintage-y worth checking out in Reading, PA or even Pittsburgh, please tell me about it! :)

Thrift Day!

I have the next 5 days off and will be out of town Fri-Sun, but today I took off just to prepare, and thrift! I am headed to some spots that always provide great bounty, about 40 minutes away. Coffee is brewed, hair is washed and I am always so excited. Thrifting is so great because there is always that element of anticipation and uncertainy - what will I find TODAY? One never knows! Once I found this pretty rockin' eyeglasses that just about engulfed my head!

Italian Lace

Not sure why wedding dresses keep making their way into my blog (perhaps because my best friend, Madeline is getting married this August), but anyway, I always loved those all over Italian lace wedding dresses and since I am already married I was really happy when I found my own non-bride version of the cream lace dress. It's light as air, and seems almost too delicate to wear, but alas here, you can see I not only wear it, but allow a clan of small dogs to lay all over it! Best thing about the Italian lace garments, they really are all season appropriate. I have a this little black lace top I'll be posting soon.

The HOTTEST pair of shoes I'll ever set free.

These are utterly and unspeakably hot. I mean, I put them on and I felt like I could seduce the paint off a house. They are what I like to call "cage heel", your foot is in somewhat of a cage, a cage you are willing to crawl into and hang out for a while, someone may feed you strawberries whilst you are in there, or perhaps they will read you excepts from Madame Bovary. I will miss these once they find their new home...

The SheSpy

First, I am having the most fantastic day! I got my haircut and I love it, just a trim, but the bangs are just perfect and the girl who cut my hair was sweet as sugar. It's my last day of work for the next 5 days, so that in of itself is pretty much a day-maker. The Etsy gods have smiled upon me and I was featured in the Etsy blog (TWO ITEMS!) AND I was also on the front page today, mid-day! I get to go to Pilates after work. And my birthday is coming up Monday and someone already gave me a present! See, best day ever!

But aside from that I found this photo on The Sartorialist and just love how this woman a) looks like a hot spy and b) is pretty much walking around town in a freaking blanket! Love it! And that hat? Superb!

The wedding dress I'm wearing in heaven.

I was SO going to bed. I was. But my friend Stacie sent me this delicious site and as suspected I came upon a dress that brought the wet stuff to mine eye. I shit you not. I felt the desire to own this dress deep inside my weary bones, as most deep, covetous, burning, present, pressing, painful desires do. I'm being dramatic, but honestly, this dress deserves all my drama. So instead of going bed, I will now cry. You can cry too.

But then, if you are a bride-to-be, perhaps you do not have to cry, but rather, you have to buy!
Which in that case you might want to know where: The Frock.

These is mine...for now.

As opposed to finding their way into the shop, it seems these three items made their way into my closet (or jewelry box, respectively). I TRY not to keep too much, but I'll just admit it, I keep a TON! At least for a little while. The brooch was my mom's and she wanted me to put in the shop, and I intended to, but then once I photographed it, I needed it.

The black dress, is SO cute! I found it at this strange thrift store in my town that I had NEVER been to (so odd). They didn't have much, but I did find a few things and this dress was one. It's velvet and it reminds of some medieval-meets-30's frock. I also intended to sell this, but alas, after modeling it for the shop, it found it's way into my closet (still have not worn it though!)

The robin's egg blue blouse was so-so, until I belted it, and then voila! It was a must-have! Dare I say, belting so many blouses and dresses changes them dramatically!

At any rate, these now live with me, but there is a lot of "turnover" whereas my garments are concerned, so I can't say they'll never show up at Dear Golden!

Sleep tight!
